These pages are intended to describe how this way of Listening works and

how it can enrich and deepen your everyday life experience . . . as a whole.

They will also lay out how you can form a supportive partnership, if you wish.

 

Before I start up ' the word machine ' . . . which eagerly waits inside us all,

itching to fill up every last inch of space with explanations and decriptions of

something that, in truth, is not so easily explained in terms we already know,

I would ask that we both pause for a moment . . . . to check inside ourselves.

Me ~ for what is actually useful to say when I don't know who I am talking to

as you could be an ' absolute beginner ' or equally the ' expert in the room '.

And you ~ for what you really want to know and what you ' expect ' to learn.

Many people would agree ~ ' Listening ' is something well worth doing more of

and also that our view of the Body has expanded to include an understanding

of ourselves as interactive . . . always living in connection with our environment

and each other. We are also living with different elements within ourselves like

our nature, our mind and personality and our thoughts, feelings and emotions.

 

I want to be clear what I mean by ' Listening ' ,' the Body ' and any other words

or expressions that can easily hold a range of meanings . . . for every one of us. 

 

I mean ~ Listening with more than our ears ~  through a body this is not viewed

or understood as seperate in some way from us . . . the Listener.

 

If we practice Listening through the Body  we can be closer to acting as one

whole system.It is possible to Listen with more than our sense of hearing alone.

Listening through the Body is, from where I am standing, much more helpful

and effective than Listening as we usually understand the meaning of the word.

 

As well as the 5 senses we know, we also have our body's 'felt sense ' of things

our instinct of Rightness and our Yes and No ~ closer to the voice of our heart  

Expanding and enriching the quality, quantity and subtle intricacy of information

available and allowing us to re-connect with ourselves ~ more deeply and easily.

 

I will outline some simple exercises and suggestions of ways to get the ball rolling  

so you can test the water to get a clear sense of whether this thing is right for you.

Our Body & Mind cannot be seperated and their relationship remain mysterious.

It does not fit to continue seeing ourselves as individuals living fragmented lives.

 

 

Now I need to explain what I mean by ' Body  ' as more than the physical body.

I understand our heart, mind and physical body to be connected as one system

and I would include myself in acknowledging we all lead quite fragmented lives

that do not readily lend themselves to living as though this were really the case.

 

In a nutshell ~ it is the quality of relationship that matters most in this context:

whether that is with other people in everyday life or with ourselves and however

much we wish to explore what it is to be a human being alive today and in touch

with . . . ' all that is within us '. ( a hebrew expression )

 

Before you say: ' space cadet ' and ' what is he smoking . . . ? ' hauld the bus !

Can you feel your feet on the ground right now ?

Can you sense inside the centre of your body ?

Can you pause for a moment to listen . . . ?
